As part of this award program, the winning agencies selected local charities to receive a total of $6,000 from Beacon Mutual as part of its commitment to the community.

Like many organizations, the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the Boys Scouts of America, with many camps canceled. OceanPoint is pleased to make a $2,000 donation to the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America to assist them at this difficult time.

Lighthouse Award

OceanPoint Insurance has received the ‘Lighthouse Award for Agency Excellence’ from the Beacon Mutual Insurance Company for the 2nd year in a row.

This award celebrates Beacon Mutual’s partnership with OceanPoint Insurance and recognizes the agency for demonstrating excellence in delivering Beacon’s workers’ compensation insurance coverage to Rhode Islanders businesses and their employees.

OceanPoint Insurance employees were able to raise a total of $1000 through their ‘Donations for Denim’ casual workday program. This initial funding was matched by Arbella Insurance to provide much needed funding for food programs in the local communities.

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (April 2, 2019) — Paquin Insurance Agency has joined OceanPoint’s growing organization in Rhode Island.  Agency Principal Rick Paquin has accepted a position as Vice President for OceanPoint, and he and his brother, Greg, will continue to serve the local community from their office in Tiverton.

Our employee volunteers are making colorful, warm, no-sew fleece blankets to be donated to Veterans and children of military families. The bright, fringed and knotted blankets will provide warmth and comfort and are a beautiful act of kindness.

Build-A-Teddy-Bear
Nothing relieves stress and brings a smile to one’s face as quickly as a stuffed animal. Our employee volunteers are stuffing cuddly, honey-colored teddy bears along with their best wishes. Veterans, military personnel and families of active duty military can all use a message of kindness, a small but present reminder of the thanks that exists for their service; all conveyed in this precious handmade bear.

These items will be donated to the Rhode Island National Guard Family Assistance Center, Rhode Island Veterans’ Home Community Living Center, and Dare to Dream Ranch, Military Retreat.

In honor of its two centuries of philanthropic commitment to Rhode Island, Bank making 200 ‘hyper-local’ donations available to nonprofits and community groups across the state

NEWPORT, R.I. (November 1, 2018) – While much has changed since BankNewport first opened its doors in 1819, its commitment to giving back to the community has not only withstood the test of time, it has deepened with the passing of each year across two centuries.

In honor of BankNewport’s 200thanniversary and its dedication to philanthropy, the Bank today announced the launch of a special “We’re All In” giving program, making $200,000 in charitable grants available to nonprofits and community groups across the state.

Through “We’re All In,” BankNewport is extending 200 ‘hyper-local’ donations, each in the amount of $1,000, in support of community projects geared toward making a positive impact in the lives of residents. Among the types of projects that will be considered for funding are communal vegetable gardens, the beautification of community space, supplies for youth programs and projects, scoreboards for youth sports, in addition to other initiatives.

The program provides BankNewport the unique opportunity to support smaller groups and projects that might not ordinarily qualify for funding based on the Bank’s giving guidelines.

“Being active in our community and giving back has served as the foundation of BankNewport since our founding two-hundred years ago,” said Sandra J. Pattie, President, and CEO, BankNewport. “We could not be more excited about this special giving program and the potential to make a difference in each and every Rhode Island community – I cannot wait to see the projects this opportunity will present.”

Funding requests for the “We’re All In” giving program may be submitted through an online application or a downloadable PDF application beginning November 1 at https://www.banknewport.com/200.

Eligible applicants must be Rhode Island-based 501c3 or tax-exempt nonprofit organizations. Applications will be reviewed and approved by BankNewport on a rolling basis, and the program will conclude once 200 donations, totaling $200,000, have been approved. Donations will not be considered for individuals without an organizational affiliation; state or local government entities; political activities; parent-teacher organizations; travel or transportation costs for conferences/competition/tournaments; or for entry fees for individuals or teams.

David Madara joins OceanPointBARRINGTON, R.I. (July 26, 2018) — OceanPoint Insurance Agency has named David J. Madara as its Client Relationship Manager, a position where he will bolster efforts to expand the agency’s foothold in the non-profit human services sector.

“David’s managerial experience and impressive track record of keeping clients satisfied along with his in-depth understanding of industry strategies will serve OceanPoint Insurance well,” said Doug Mayhew, President of OceanPoint Insurance. “We are confident he has the skills and expertise needed to help our agency become the region’s leading insurance provider for non-profit organizations.”

With more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, Madara was most recently the Chief Operating Officer at an insurance and financial services firm in southeastern Massachusetts where he led a team of nearly two dozen insurance agents and streamlined office operations. He also held managerial roles at a local insurance agency and with the Professional Insurance Agents Association and was president of The Madara Company Inc., a third-generation family agency that was founded by his grandfather.

Most recently, Madara volunteers actively with the American Red Cross Disaster Services, the Boy Scouts of America, and his faith organization. “Serving as risk management advisor to human service organizations is what drives me. If I can pass insurance understanding and advice forward to help my clients deliver on their mission more effectively, I will continue to make a difference for my community,” Madara said.

While his recent focus has been in the nonprofit and human services sector, Madara has served clients in healthcare, life sciences, construction, restaurant, technology, cultural arts and manufacturing industries. Additionally, he is well-equipped to help clients from various industries through his professional designations as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) and a Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS).

Madara started his new position in June and is optimistic about the agency’s future in the sector. “I’m looking forward to securing reliable products for companies dedicated to the public good and helping OceanPoint Insurance establish itself as the premier destination for risk management and all insurance-related needs.”

Madara resides with his wife, Lisa, in Westport Point, Mass, and he has two grown daughters.
